Generation II

Randolph Holt was born about 1607 in Prestbury, Cheshire, England and died 1650 at Hogg Island, Surry Co, VA.

The record notes that he came from England on the ship George, 1620-21, placing him among the first settlers of the Virginia Colony. London ship records of 1635 show two other Holts who sailed from England that year. These men were all less than twenty-one years old. American Genealogist, 1961, volume 7, pages 69 to 94, has the following: Randall Holt, born about 1606-7, and immigrant to Virginia on the ship George, 1620-21, as a thirteen-year-old indentured servent to Doctor John Pott, subsequently Governor of Virginia. He was released from servitude by Court Order dated 20 Mar 1625, on 25 Dec 1625.

On 18 Sep 1636, Randall Holt patented 400 acres above the head of Lower Chippoakes creek, near Hog Island, which became Surry Co. in 1652. This was due for the transportation of eight persons including Thomas Read and John Harris. In 1642, he patented 710 additional acres in Surry Co.

He married Mary Bayley. She was born about 1609 in Holland and died about 1636 in Jamestown, VA. She was the daughter of John Bayley.

The Bayley family were Pilgrams who had fled religious persecution in England for Holland, the birth place of Mary. They did not arrive in the New World untill 1618, when Mary was already 10 years old. Her father was listed among the dead at Jamestown between April 1623 and February 1624. She received as her inheritance the patent of 700 acres called Hogg Island in Surry County. Robert Evers was her guardian after the death of her father, until she was of age to take possession of her inheritance.

Their children were:
